Best of Rwanda
Mountain gorillas are found only in the volcanic forests of Rwanda, Uganda, and the DRC. With roughly 1,063 individuals remaining, gorilla trekking is one of the most exclusive and profoundly moving wildlife experiences on Earth — small groups trek through ancient rainforest to spend one unforgettable hour with a habituated gorilla family.
Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park offers a streamlined, high-end experience with $1,500 permits and easy access from Kigali. Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is wilder and more remote, with more affordable permits and half the world's gorilla population. Both deliver a life-changing encounter you'll never forget.
Rwanda offers streamlined luxury with easy Kigali access and exclusive $1,500 permits. Uganda is wilder and more affordable, with Bwindi hosting half the world's gorillas. Both are unforgettable — or combine them on one trip.
Dry seasons (Jun–Sep & Dec–Feb) offer the easiest trekking conditions with drier trails and clearer skies. But these are rainforests — some rain is possible year-round. Permits sell out months in advance, so book early.
No children under 15. Moderate fitness required — treks can last 1–6 hours over steep, muddy terrain. Bring hiking boots, long pants, gardening gloves (for nettles), rain jacket, and energy snacks. A porter is included or available.
